Fractured Frames, 2016
Fractured Frames is a ten piece series interrogating business women in the city. When tasked with creating a series about ‘the city’ I decided to focus on that to explore the increasing gender wage gap in Australia and the seeming loss of identity of women in workforces dominated by men. It was quoted that there is a ‘million dollar penalty’ for being a woman in Australia when it comes to wage inequality, which research shows either leads women to sacrifice maternal life for their career or sacrifice their career for maternal life, a completely biased situation as this isn't expected of men. Breaking this social construct is a constant struggle for women in today’s society so I wanted to interrogate and portray this concept by taking aspects of the abject and the uncanny and applying them to my work.
